Vodafone Idea Share Price: Shares of Vodafone Idea Ltd have extended gains for the third straight day on June 26. Vodafone Idea share price surged nearly 11 per cent in the last three sessions even after the company denied reports which claimed that that the government is providing the telecom player relief worth Rs 84,000 crore for its regulatory dues.
Why Is Vodafone Idea Share Price Rising
Shares of Vodafone Idea gained after reports suggested a possible fundraise by the telecom sector player. According to a Bloomberg report which cited sources privy to the matter, Vodafone Idea is looking to borrow $2.9 billion to enhance its network and take on other telecom sector players like Jio and Bharti Airtel. The report also mentioned that the State Bank of India is expected to lead a consortium of lenders and the debt is likely to consist of both domestic and foreign loans with a tenor of approximately 10 years. As per the report, global banks will also join the consortium and the fundraise would be concluded in a year. Notably a successful fundraise is likely to help the telecom sector major in funding capital expenditure and rolling out a faster network as the company seeks to reclaim its market share.

The telecom sector major had to previously defer its fundraising plans as lenders expressed concerns regarding the company's weak finances and increasing dues. In April the Government acquired additional stake in Vodafone Idea and increased its total stake to 48.99 per cent. The stake acquisition happened as the telecom sector paid off its dues by converting them into equity.
Earlier on June 24 the company denied reports of having received any communication from the Government regarding any relief for its dues.
"We have not received any communication from the government in relation to the matter reported above. As and when there is any development which requires disclosure, we will do the needful," Vodafone Idea said in an exchange filing.
