Summary of this article
Jio Platforms IPO opens on October 21 and closes on October 23
RIL shareholders who held shares by October 14 may qualify for the quota
The Rs 2,500 crore reservation does not guarantee allotment to eligible investors
Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio Platforms’ initial public offering (IPO) opens for public subscription on Wednesday, October 21, giving investors an opportunity to participate in India’s biggest-ever public issue. Reliance Industries shareholders also have access to a separate reservation worth Rs 2,500 crore, subject to eligibility and allotment rules.
The Rs 30,213-crore IPO is set at Rs 1,065-1,119 per share. The issue will close on Friday, October 23, while the shares are scheduled to list on October 28.
Investor interest has been strong ahead of the opening. Jio Platforms’ anchor book attracted bids worth nearly Rs 2.5 lakh crore against an allocation of around Rs 8,110 crore. The company allotted shares to institutional investors, including BlackRock and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.
However, strong demand does not guarantee allotment. For eligible Reliance Industries shareholders, the reserved category offers a separate route to apply for Jio Platforms shares.
Who Is Eligible For Jio IPO Shareholder Quota
Individual investors and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who held Reliance Industries (RIL) shares as of October 14, 2026, qualify for the shareholder reservation. The date coincides with the filing of Jio Platforms’ red herring prospectus (RHP), which established the eligibility cutoff.
Even investors holding a single RIL share on October 14 can qualify. However, buying Reliance Industries shares on October 14 or later will not make an investor eligible for this reservation.
Under India’s T+1 settlement system, the last regular trading day to purchase RIL shares and qualify for the Jio IPO shareholder quota was October 13. Investors who bought shares on that date could have their holdings credited in time for the October 14 cutoff, subject to settlement.
How Does The Rs 2,500 Crore Shareholder Reservation Work
Jio Platforms has reserved shares worth up to Rs 2,500 crore for eligible Reliance Industries shareholders. The reservation gives qualifying investors access to a separate allotment pool instead of relying solely on the general retail investor category.
The reservation does not guarantee an allotment. The number of shares an applicant receives will depend on demand in the shareholder category and the final basis of allotment.
Investors should also distinguish between eligibility and the amount they can apply for. Holding one RIL share establishes eligibility, but it does not mean an investor will receive Jio Platforms shares.
Can You Apply Under Both Shareholder And Retail Categories
Eligible investors can consider applying under both the shareholder and retail categories, subject to the IPO’s application rules and the applicable investment limits. The two categories have separate reservation pools, giving eligible applicants another route to seek an allotment.
Investors should check the offer documents and application requirements before submitting bids. Applying under both categories does not assure an allotment in either category.
Jio IPO: Issue Size, Valuation And Listing Date
Jio Platforms is looking to raise Rs 30,213 crore at the upper end of its price band of Rs 1,065-1,119 per share. At the upper end, the company’s valuation stands at around Rs 10.3 lakh crore, or approximately $108 billion.
The offering is a major milestone for Reliance Industries, which last launched an IPO in 2006. Jio Platforms is the parent company of Reliance Jio Infocomm, India’s largest telecom operator, with more than 500 million subscribers.
Since launching telecom services in 2016, Jio has expanded beyond mobile connectivity into a broader digital business. Its investors include global technology companies Meta and Google, along with financial and private equity investors.
The IPO gives public market investors an opportunity to own a stake in the telecom and digital platform. Its listing on October 28 will also be closely watched by investors and companies assessing demand for large public offerings in India.
