Banks across different states will remain closed on several days during the month due to national holidays, festivals and regional observances.
October 2026 will see a series of bank holidays for occasions that include Gandhi Jayanti, Maha Saptami, Dussehra, Durga Puja, Vijaya Dashmi, Laxmi Puja and Karwa Chauth. There will be a set of state-specific holidays that would also affect the functioning of banks.
Customers should also know that banks observe their regular holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays, along with Sundays. However, digital banking facilities such as Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Netbanking, mobile banking, and ATM services generally remain available even when physical branches are closed.

This holiday falls on Friday; banks across all states and Union Territories will remain closed on account of Gandhi Jayanti.
October 10, 2026
Banks in Karnataka and Kolkata will remain closed for Mahalaya Amavasya, which will be on a Saturday.
October 17, 2026
Banks in Tripura will remain closed for Maha Saptami, which is on a Saturday.
October 19, 2026
Banking activities in several states will not be accessible on this day. States including Tripura, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Manipur, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Meghalaya will remain closed for festivals associated with Dussehra, Durga Puja and Vijaya Dashami. This falls on a Monday.

For the celebration of Dussehra, Vijaya Dashami, Ayudha Puja and Durga Puja, banks will remain closed in all states except Manipur and Sikkim.

Will Online Banking Services be Available?
Bank branches being closed does not mean that all banking services will stop. Customers can continue using UPI, Netbanking, mobile banking and ATMs for their routine transactions. Money transfers, bill payments, and several account management services can generally be completed digitally.
However, the services that require a physical branch visit, such as certain cheque-related work, locker access, documentation and other activities that require in-person visits, will not be available on holidays.
