The last date to activate Universal Account Number (UAN) and seed bank account with Aadhaar has been extended to 15th March 2025, according to a post by EPFO on X. It is to be noted that the EPFO has extended the deadline many times earlier.
The individuals must link their bank account with the Aadhaar card. they also need to activate UAN to avail of benefits under the EPFO's Employment-Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme.
The ELI scheme was introduced in the Union Budget 2023-24. The aim is to create more than 20 million jobs by providing incentives to formal sector employment.
The ELI scheme has three components.
Scheme A of the ELI will offer one-month wage as a direct transfer benefit to those who newly join the formal workforce. Thus benefit will be provided in three installments and will apply to first-time employees who are registered with the EPFO. The maximum limit is of Rs 15,000 and the employee’s monthly salary should not exceed Rs 1 lakh.
Scheme B is meant for employees who work in manufacturing and have a three-year history of contributing to the EPFO. For this, employers must hire 50 new employees. The incentives will be paid out over four years. The payment will be 24 per cent of wages for two years, 16 per cent in the third year, and eight per cent in the fourth year. Also, employees must earn up to Rs 1 lakh per month.
Scheme C is an employer-centric program. It is meant to support additional employment across all sectors and covers new employment with a monthly salary of up to Rs 1 lakh. Here, the government will reimburse employees up to Rs 3,000 per month per additional employee for two years. This will contribute to their EPFO payments.
Here are the steps to activate UAN through Aadhaar-based OTP
Visit The EPFO Member Portal: Go to the official EPFO website.
Activate UAN: Click on the ‘Activate UAN’ link in the 'Important Links' section. If you don’t have a UAN, request it from your employer.
Provide Details: Enter your UAN, Aadhaar number, full name, date of birth, and mobile number linked to Aadhaar.
Link Aadhaar And Mobile: Ensure your mobile is linked to Aadhaar for EPFO services.
Agree To OTP Verification: Accept the Aadhaar-based OTP verification.
Generate OTP: Click ‘Get Authorization PIN’ to receive an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
Complete Activation: Enter the OTP to finish the process. A password will be sent to your registered mobile for future logins.
