A Bengaluru woman and her partner have been arrested for allegedly defrauding numerous women of over Rs 20 crore via bogus investment schemes disguised as social invitations and business prospects. The accused has been in police custody for five days as investigations continue.
According to a report by The Indian Express, the main accused, Savita G, is a resident of Kirloskar Colony in Basaveshwaranagar. She was taken into custody together with Puneet P, a Sunakadakatte resident. At least two FIRs have been registered against her at the Govindaraja Nagar and Basaveshwaranagar police stations in connection with the case.
She is believed to have targeted financially well-off women by building trust through social interactions, especially kitty parties hosted at her home and other venues. These gatherings were used to promote a variety of investment claims, such as low-cost gold purchases from abroad, private television tenders, and real estate agreements that promised significant profits.
Many women were persuaded to invest through cash payments or online transfers. The funds, which were purportedly redirected with the assistance of her partner, were allegedly used to purchase things or handle personal needs. Authorities believe that, rather than legitimate investments, the activities were part of an informal chit fund operating in the area.
