Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched Mission Shakti 5.0 today at Lucknow's Lok Bhavan auditorium, dedicated to women's safety, respect, and self-reliance. New Mission Shakti centres were inaugurated at all 1,647 police stations across the state, and SOP booklets were released to guide their functioning. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Minister Baby Rani Maurya, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
Mission Shakti which first statted in 2020, aims to provide security and empowerment to women across the state. CM Yogi emphasised the advancements made thus far, emphasising that successful families and societies are built on the backs of safe and healthy women. He said that continuous efforts are being made to advance women's lives in Uttar Pradesh. The Chief Minister added that even criminals and members of the mafia are now acknowledging their past mistakes, reflecting the program's broader impact on law and order.
Under Mission Shakti 5.0, 44,177 women police personnel are deployed across 57,000 village panchayats and 14,000 urban wards. Female officers visit communities to educate women about their rights and government welfare schemes. They are also specially assigned to public places during festivals, which strengthens the Anti-Romeo Squad to maintain order and safety. In the previous phase, more than 3.44 lakh programs reached 2.03 crore women through operations that addressed drug offenses, child rescue, cybercrime, and other illicit behaviors that leads to thousands of arrests.
State crime data were also highlighted by CM Yogi, as noted that since January 1, 2024, 12,271 perpetrators have been punished in 9,513 crimes involving women, including 12 death sentences. He emphasised the seriousness of complaints received on women's helpline 1090 which ensures that every call is addressed with full attention and resolved satisfactorily.
The Chief Minister further mentioned details about the Kanya Sumangala Yojana's welfare programs for girls, which added a package worth Rs 25,000 from birth to graduation, with phased benefits and required immunisations that guarantee no discrimination. Also, the Chief Minister's Mass Marriage Scheme offers financial support for daughters' marriages.
