As cases of online tech support scams continue to grow, concerns about cybersecurity and fraud have increased. A case going viral on social media involves Gaurav Trivedi, a resident of Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, who allegedly runs a tech support scam from his residence. When Trivedi allegedly targeted Twitter user NanoBaiter, he claims to have turned the situation around and exposed Trivedi’s activities.

NanoBaiter wrote: “Meet Gaurav Trivedi, an Indian scammer who impersonates Microsoft support and allegedly targets users. He tried to scam me……but instead of paying him money, I accessed his laptop and turned on his live webcam feed.”

The scam reportedly begins with a fake pop-up that locks the user’s screen, blares a loud warning sound, and urges them to call “Microsoft” immediately or risk losing their data. Once contact is made, Trivedi allegedly attempts to gain control of the computer using remote access software such as AnyDesk or TeamViewer.

NanoBaiter claims that when Trivedi attempted this scam on him, he gave Trivedi access to a virtual machine instead. Through this setup, he says he was able to access Trivedi’s webcam and capture a clear image of his face. He also reports that Trivedi’s real name appeared on a softphone dialer, confirming his identity. In addition, he claims to have traced Trivedi’s location through the WiFi card on his laptop.

Through the webcam, NanoBaiter said he observed Trivedi’s daily activities, including eating and sleeping, while he allegedly attempted to scam others. He confronted Trivedi directly via the webcam, documenting his reactions in real time.

NanoBaiter urged authorities to take action to safeguard users to highlight the alleged scams, and also tagged the Raebareli Police in his tweet. Also, he mentioned that he had reported the incident multiple times and emphasised the need for intervention.

The post attracted attention from netizens for highlighting Gaurav Trivedi’s alleged scam activities and NanoBaiter’s experience confronting him via webcam. The post has received 36.3 million views so far.
