For thousands of low-income families across Bihar, a concrete home was once a distant dream. But now that dream is slowly coming to reality.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a public address in Motihari on July 18, 2025 said that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), a flagship affordable housing program of the Centre, has already delivered six million pucca homes across the state. Motihari alone accounts for more than 300,000 of those homes, he said.
“These numbers are not abstract. They represent dignity, safety, and a permanent roof over the heads of millions. Under PM Awas Yojna, we gave more houses to Bihar than the entire population of Norway, New Zealand and Singapore,” he said.
Incidentally, Norway’s population stands at around 5.52 million, while for New Zealand and Singapore, the figures are 5.22 million and 5.92 million, respectively.
