Changes in EPFO contribution due to new labour laws
The new consolidated Labour Codes 2025, notified last week, have made retirement contributions mandatory. The codes also clarified that the basic salary of an employee must comprise at least 50 per cent of their total pay.
The calculation of the PF contribution is 12 per cent of your basic pay. Out of this, 6 per cent is contributed by the employee, and the other 6 per cent by the employer.
Considering your overall pay remains the same, if the basic salary part is increased to 50 per cent of your total CTC, then the contribution made to the PF account is set to rise. Incrementally, it should also be noted that your take-home salary may see some fall due to the higher contribution made towards your PF account.
How to add or change your EPFO bank account
To change your bank, you're linked to the EPFO. Go to the EPFO United Portal and navigate to the ‘Manage’ option. Select the ‘KYC’ option from the drop-down list. In the document type, select the bank you wish to add, and update it with the bank account number and the IFSC code.
