Bihar Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana was recently launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to benefit millions of women in Bihar. The scheme is aimed at encouraging self-employment among women and financially empowering them. During the launch, PM Modi transferred Rs 10,000 to the 75 lakh beneficiaries’ bank accounts through direct benefit transfer (DBT). Notably, the beneficiaries will be given Rs 10,000 directly in their bank account in the first instalment, and an additional financial support of Rs 2 lakh later, after assessing their requirement once they start employment.
The eligible women can use the funds for endeavours such as opening a shop to sell groceries, cosmetics, toys, stationery, etc. They can also use the funds to start an enterprise of their choice, such as poultry farming, agriculture, handicrafts, tailoring, and weaving.
The scheme is available to women in both rural and urban areas. In rural areas, the Rural Development Department implements it through the Bihar Rural Livelihood Promotion Committee (Jeevika). In urban areas, the Urban Development and Housing Department is responsible for implementation. However, many women have not received the funds yet under the scheme as reported by the media. Eligible beneficiaries are confused about where to check the find the status.
