8th Pay Commission Invites Applications For Consultant Role: Check Eligibility And Details

The eagerly awaited 8th Central Pay Commission’s (CPC) recommendations are expected to be finalised by mid-2027. In the process of preparing them, the Commission is now inviting applications from eligible people who want to participate in the process. Selected candidates will work as consultants and can earn up to Rs 1.80 lakh per month. 

According to the notification dated April 10, 2026, the application process is completely online, and appointments will be ongoing until the vacancy is filled. These roles will be temporary and contractual. The aim is to hire professionals capable of providing high-end services for time-bound objectives.

Who All Are Eligible?

The eligibility criteria are stringent, requiring both academic excellence and practical experience. Applicants must either have a Master's or MBA in Finance, Human Resource, Industrial Relations, or an L.L.B with a background in legal research or experience in handling service matters with Tribunals and Courts as an advocate.

The selected candidate will be required to perform tasks other than the day-to-day office work. The scope of work includes analysing salary and pay structures, allowance, pension, etc., reviewing the existing emolument structure, and conducting legal research. A critical part of their responsibility involves gathering data from reports and surveys to identify trends on demographic and economic trends.

They will also coordinate with various ministries and government departments to collate data and estimate the fiscal impact of the proposed changes.

What Salary Will They Get?

The Commission has classified the roles into three distinct categories (senior consultant, consultants, and young professionals) based on experience and age as of April 1, 2026.

Senior Consultant: (Maximum 5)

• requires over 10 years of experience with an upper age limit of 45 years

• will be offered fixed monthly remuneration of Rs 1.80 lakh for full-time engagement

Consultants: (Maximum 5)

• Requires over six years of experience and an age limit of 40 years

• Will receive full-time remuneration of Rs 1.20 lakh

Young Professionals: (Maximum 10)

• Requires over four years of experience and should be under the age of 32

• These roles will carry a salary of Rs 90,000

However, the consultants can also join on a part-time basis for 12 working days or six working days a month. The remuneration in such cases will be lower.

• The senior consultants will get Rs 90,000 for 12 days a month, and Rs 45,000 for six days a month.

• Consultants will get Rs 60,000 for 12 days a month, and Rs 30,000 for six days a month.

• The young professionals will get Rs 45,000 for 12 days a month, and Rs 22,500 for six days a month.

Full-time consultants are prohibited from taking any other assignments. The Commission will provide these consultants with basic infrastructure. The notification explicitly mentioned that the Commission will not provide laptops, phones, or Internet facilities. Consultants will have to arrange it themselves.

Further, the consultants will be bound by the Official Secret Act, 1923, and are prohibited from sharing any Commission-related information or data on social media, websites, apps, AI tools, or in any other public domain.

The successful candidate must be ready to join within 30 days of receiving an offer through email, the notification further said.
