The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has made a uniform interest rate on bulk fixed deposit (FD) mandatory for similar amounts and tenures that are booked on the same date across all branches of a bank. Banks are strictly prohibited from offering differential rates on bulk deposits of the same size to their customers. While these rules will apply from October 1, 2026, it’s important to know that these are applicable to bulk deposits (single deposit of more than Rs 3 crore and above) only. There is no change for smaller deposits. During the week ending August 22, 2026, four banks revised their FD rates. Here are the interest rate details for senior citizens.
Effective August 19, 2026, HDFC Bank’s new FD rates are applicable. The bank now offers the highest rate of 7.10 per cent to seniors. Here are the rates:
6.75 per cent for one year to less than 15 months
6.85 per cent for 15 months to less than 18 months
6.95 per cent for 18 months to less than 21 months
6.95 per cent for 21 months to two years
6.95 per cent for two years one day to less than two years and 11 months
6.95 per cent for two years 11 months (35 months)
6.95 per cent for two years, 11 months, one day to three years
7.10 per cent for three years one day to less than four years seven months
6.90 per cent for four years, seven months (55 months)
6.90 per cent for four years, seven months, one day to less than five years
6.65 per cent for five years, one day to 10 years
Federal Bank revised and increased FD rates and introduced an additional tenure on August 17, 2026. Senior citizens can avail of a maximum of 7.20 per cent with the bank. Here are the details:
6.75 per cent for one year
6.90 per cent for more than one year to less than 15 months
7.15 per cent for 15 months
6.90 per cent for above 15 months to 24 months
7.00 per cent for above 24 months to less than 48 months
7.20 per cent for 48 months
6.90 per cent for more than 48 months to 10 years
Slice Small Finance Bank (SFB), erstwhile North East SFB, revised FD rates on August 19, 2026, after almost 10 months. It offers seniors the highest rate of 7.75 per cent on FDs with quarterly interest payout. The revised rates for seniors are:
7.25 per cent for 12 months, one day to 18 months
7.75 per cent for 18 months, one day to 24 months
7.50 per cent for 24 months, one day to 36 months
7.25 per cent for 36 months, one day to 60 months
6.75 per cent for 60 months, one day to 120 months
ESAF SFB revised FD rates on August 17, 2026, and increased the highest rate by 0.25 per cent. It now offers a maximum of 8.50 per cent to senior citizens. Seniors can receive:
6.50 per cent for 183 days to one year
7.75 per cent for one year, one day to 500 days
8.00 per cent for 501 days
7.75 per cent for 502 days to less than two years
8.25 per cent for two years to less than 799 days
8.50 per cent for 800 days
8.25 per cent for 801 days to less than three years
6.50 per cent for three years to less than five years
6.25 per cent for five years to 10 years
These rates are for callable FD valued at less than Rs 3 crore.
