The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday said that 99.7 per cent of applications have been processed within the prescribed timeline under its Citizens’ Charter in April 2026.

RBI has handled a total of 21,150 applications during the month. This has included both pending cases carried forward from earlier periods and fresh applications received in April, after adjusting for those referred back to applicants for additional information.

At the beginning of April, 3,452 applications were pending with the central bank. During the month, 18,270 fresh applications have been received. A total of 572 cases have been referred back to applicants seeking additional details, which has brought the net number of applications taken up for processing to 21,150.

Out of these, 18,677 applications have been processed during April. Around 18,622 cases, or 99.7 per cent, have been disposed of within the stipulated timeline. Only 55 cases, or 0.3 per cent, have been cleared beyond the deadline.

Pending Cases And Status

At the end of the month, 2,473 applications remained pending. Among these, 2,458 cases, or 99.4 per cent, have been within the prescribed timeline, indicating that they are still under the allowed processing period.

A small portion, 15 cases or 0.6 per cent, have remained pending beyond the deadline. According to RBI, these delayed cases have been awaiting inputs from external agencies.

Applications Across Functions

Function-wise data released by RBI has shown that a large share of applications has been concentrated in a few operational categories.

The ‘Banker to Banks and Governments’ segment has accounted for 8,384 processed applications during April, all of which have been cleared within the timeline.

In the ‘Currency Management’ function, 7,542 applications have been processed within the stipulated timeline, while 25 cases have been disposed of after the deadline. Additionally, 676 applications in this category have remained pending within the timeline at the end of the month.

Foreign Exchange And Supervision

In the ‘Foreign Exchange Management’ segment, 1,310 applications have been processed within the prescribed timeline, while 15 cases have been cleared beyond it. At the end of April, 961 applications have been pending within the timeline, and 14 have been beyond the deadline.

Under ‘Regulation and Supervision’, 556 applications have been processed within the stipulated period, and 11 cases have been disposed of after the deadline. A total of 677 applications in this category have remained pending within the timeline.
