The headline indices began the session on a muted note. During the session, the Nifty 50 slipped 0.66 per cent to 25,718.2 levels. The BSE Sensex also fell 0.7 per cent to an intraday low of 83,957.15.

The declines followed a dampening of investor sentiment amid perceived delays in the signing of an India-US trade deal. Union Commerce and Trade Minister Piyush Goyal stated that India will not sign any trade deals in a hurry. The statement follows fresh developments on the India-US trade deal front in recent days.

Cipla and Hindustan Unilever Lead Losers

Shares of Cipla Ltd and Hindustan Unilever Ltd came out as the top-drags among Nifty 50 stocks on October 24. Cipla Ltd shares closed lower by 3.68 per cent and Hindustan Unilever shares finished lower by 3.33 per cent. Other major losers included Max Healthcare Institute Ltd, UltraTech Cement Ltd and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd which closed lower by 2.25 per cent, 1.93 per cent and 1.82 per cent respectively.

Nifty Realty and Nifty Metal Buck Trend

The Nifty Realty and the Nifty Metal indices bucked the trend among all sectoral indices, closing higher by 0.18 per cent and 1.03 per cent respectively. On the other hand, the Nifty Healthcare index and the Nifty Bank finished lower by 0.18 per cent and 0.65 per cent respectively. Broader market indices also came under pressure and finished lower, the Nifty SmallCap 100 and the Nifty Midcap 100 closed lower by 0.21 per cent and 0.24 per cent respectively.

Global Markets On October 24

Asian indices gained in trade on October 24 to finish in the green. Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed at 49,260 levels up by 618.39 points or 1.26 per cent. Other Asian indices also closed with gains, Hang Seng finished the session up by 0.78 per cent, South Korea’s KOSPI finished higher by 2.44 per cent and the Shanghai Composite closed higher by 0.71 per cent. Asian indices witnessed gains amid easing US-China trade tensions.

Primary Market Activity Today

Shares of Midwest Ltd made their D-street debut on the NSE and BSE on October 24. The stock listed with a premium of over 9 per cent to the issue. On the other hand, Orkla India Ltd announced the price band and dates for its upcoming public issue.

Market Outlook

D-street will react to a slew of major global events in the week starting October 27 2025. Some of the key global events which are set to take place in the upcoming week include the US Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy meeting and a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Closer home fresh developments on the India-US trade deal are also expected to impact investor sentiment. Stock-specific triggers such as the announcement of financial results for the September quarter of FY 26 are also expected to impact D-street.
