Stock Market News: On January 16, the headline indices are likely to start the session on a negative note. The Gift Nifty opened lower at 25,779.00 down by nearly 23 points, the benchmark Nifty is expected to track the dip.
On January 14, the headline indices finished lower. The BSE Sensex finished the session around the 83,382.71 level down by 244.98 points or 0.29 per cent. On the other hand, the Nifty 50 ended the session at 25,665.6 down by 66.70 points or 0.26 per cent.

US-India Trade Deal
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal has said that India is set to sign a major trade deal with the US, additionally, India will also sign a trade deal with the European Union (EU) according to a report by NDTV. Agrawal said that the discussions are underway amid the imposition of steep tariffs. However, the commerce secretary did not give a definite deadline for the announcement of the deal. D-street has been factoring in the impact of a "worst-case scenario" of the tariffs pressuring India’s exports. However the signing of a deal is expected to boost investor sentiment.
Crude Oil Prices Today
On January 16, crude oil prices traded marginally lower as the price of West Texas Intermediate was around $59.09 down by $0.05 or 0.17 per cent. The price of Brent Crude was around $63.62 down by $0.14 or 0.22 per cent in the early hours of the day.
Gold Prices On January 16
Physical gold prices edged upwards in the early hours of January 16 as the price of 24 karat gold was Rs 14,361 per gram, the price of 22 karat purity gold was around Rs 13,164 per gram and the price of 18 karat gold was around Rs 10,771 per gram.
Silver Price Edges Up
Spot silver prices edged upwards on January 16, with physical silver prices trading higher at Rs 2,95,100 per kilogram up by Rs 100.
Q3FY26 Results
On January 16 heavyweights across sectors such as energy, IT, and banking are set to report their financial results for the third quarter of FY26. As many as 45 companies are scheduled to announce their results today. Some of the major companies set to announce their results today include Reliance Industries (RIL) and Wipro, Tech Mahindra.
Asian Indices Trade Mixed
On January 16, major Asian indices traded mixed in the early hours of the session. The Nikkei 225, the Shanghai Composite and the Hang Seng traded with declines of 0.35 per cent, 0.22 per cent and 0.18 per cent respectively. On the other hand, the KOSPI traded higher by 1.12 per cent.
US Markets
US market indices closed the session with gains on January 15. The Nasdaq Composite closed with gains of 0.25 per cent. On the other hand, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) closed higher by 0.26 per cent and 0.6 per cent respectively.
