Shares of Symbiotec Pharmalab made a muted debut on September 1, listing at Rs 988 on the NSE, unchanged from its issue price of Rs 988 per share.
On the BSE, the stock opened at Rs 978.20, down Rs 9.80, or 0.99 per cent, from the issue price.
The listing came in well below grey market expectations. The company's shares were commanding a GMP of Rs 185 on September 1, indicating an estimated listing price of Rs 1,173 against the issue price of Rs 988. This suggested a potential listing gain of 18.72 per cent.
The Rs 1,757 crore initial public offering (IPO) had received a strong response from investors during the bidding period. The issue was subscribed 75.08 times before closing on August 27.
The qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) category was subscribed 181.20 times, while the non-institutional investor (NII) portion was subscribed 77.56 times. The retail investor portion received bids for 13.69 times the shares on offer.
The company had fixed the final issue price at Rs 988 per share, against a price band of Rs 938-988. The IPO comprised a fresh issue of shares worth Rs 150 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of shares worth Rs 1,607 crore.
The company had reserved up to 33,408 shares for employees at a discount of Rs 90 per share to the issue price.
At the listing price, Symbiotec Pharmalab's market capitalisation stood at around Rs 6,285.5 crore.
JM Financial acted as the book running lead manager, while MUFG Intime India served as the registrar.
What Does Symbiotec Pharmalab Do
Incorporated in 2002, Symbiotec Pharmalab is engaged in the development and manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), nutritional ingredients and specialty products.
The company has a long operating history in steroidal hormone APIs and has developed a backward-integrated manufacturing platform. Its facilities have approvals from the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA), European Union Good Manufacturing Practices (EU-GMP), South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and other regulatory bodies.
As of June 30, 2025, Symbiotec Pharmalab operated two industrial-scale API manufacturing facilities. These had a maximum chemical synthesis capacity of 584.67 metric tonnes and fermentation capacity of 300 kilolitres.
The company caters to pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and wellness businesses across domestic and international markets.
Symbiotec Pharmalab IPO Objectives
Symbiotec Pharmalab plans to use Rs 112.50 crore from the IPO proceeds to prepay or repay certain outstanding borrowings. It has allocated another Rs 29.53 crore for general corporate purposes and will use part of the proceeds to meet issue expenses.
Symbiotec Pharmalab Financial Performance
Symbiotec Pharmalab's total income rose to Rs 872.26 crore in FY26 from Rs 755.98 crore in FY25 and Rs 723.33 crore in FY24. That puts FY26 income 20.6 per cent above FY24. The company had reported total income of Rs 575.96 crore in FY23.
Profit after tax (PAT) came in at Rs 109.90 crore in FY26, up from Rs 96.79 crore in FY25. However, PAT was higher at Rs 100.06 crore in FY24, showing that profit had fallen before recovering in FY26.
Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) rose to Rs 231.97 crore in FY26 from Rs 206.11 crore in FY25 and Rs 177.04 crore in FY24.
The balance sheet also strengthened. Net worth increased to Rs 1,158.64 crore as of March 31, 2026, from Rs 821.15 crore in FY25 and Rs 720.68 crore in FY24.
Debt, meanwhile, narrowed to Rs 387.91 crore in FY26 from Rs 540.92 crore in FY25. However, borrowings were only Rs 247.21 crore in FY24.
