Equity benchmark indices were trading deep into the red in morning trade on October 28 amid a mix of geopolitical cues, weighed down largely by IT stocks.

At 10:22 AM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 72,603.57, down 995.10 points, or 1.35 per cent. The NSE Nifty 50 stood at 22,508.45, declining 241.30 points, or 1.06 per cent.

The weakness extended across the broader market, although small-cap stocks bucked the trend. The Nifty Smallcap 50 and Nifty Smallcap 100 were trading 0.56 per cent and 0.23 per cent higher, respectively, at the time of writing, while all other broader market indices were in the negative territory.

Among sectoral indices, only auto, pharma and healthcare were trading in positive territory, while the remaining major sectoral indices declined.

Market breadth on the NSE remained negative. Of the 3,293 stocks traded so far, 1,286 advanced, 1,897 declined and 110 remained unchanged.

This is a developing story... Stay tuned
