While some investors spend hours chasing the next winning stock, others are happy to let the market do the heavy lifting. If you believe in the latter, index based exchange-traded funds (ETFs) could be an ideal choice. If you want to invest in Nifty 50 companies, Nippon India Nifty 50 BeES could be a decent choice.
The Scheme
This fund is India’s first ETF with a track record of nearly two-and-a-half decades, and is among the top five ETFs in terms of asset size. A larger asset under management (AUM) indicates greater investor participation, which contributes to higher trading volumes and better liquidity. ETFs with higher trading volumes typically have narrower bid–ask spreads, which makes it easier for investors to buy and sell units at prices closer to their market value.
This ETF passively tracks the broader index, Nifty 50, which has the 50 most liquid stocks on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) from different sectors. As the fund replicates the Nifty 50 index, its value moves in tandem with that of the Nifty 50.

Cost-Efficient Investing
ETFs are better than index funds on several counts, especially in terms of cost. While index funds are allowed to charge higher expense ratio, ETFs charge much less on account of their structure. With an expense ratio of just 0.04 per cent, Nippon India Nifty 50 BeES stands out as one of the lowest-cost options among passively managed diversified equity funds.
The lower tracking error (TE) is another hallmark of the scheme. TE indicates how closely the fund’s returns follow its benchmark index. Lower TE means close replication of the index’s performance, while a higher TE suggests greater deviation. For investors, a low tracking error indicates that the fund manager is replicating the index efficiently.
The scheme has one of the lowest TE (0.02 per cent for one and three years as on September 30, 2026) among all diversified passive funds.
OLM Take
This could be a good starting option for those new investors looking to enter the equity market. This may also be suitable for existing investors, who are content with market-linked returns.
