The 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) is in the final stages of formulation. The pay commission set up by the government is to review and revise the pay structures of government employees and invites associations, unions and other stakeholders to present their views, opinions and suggestions regarding the upcoming pay structure.
Currently, the CPC has completed nearly one-third of the timeline set. The process is unfolding steadily as the outcome of the 8th CPC is wide-ranging and sensitive, while it also depends on various internal and external matters of the committee. However, what can be said at present is that government employees, pensioners, and PSU employees are eagerly waiting for any confirmation on the fitment factor.
A series of updates and notices have been released regarding the upcoming pay commission after the Delhi consultation meetings have concluded. These updates are important for the central government employees and pensioners.
Consultant engagement modified
The 8th CPC has modified its guidelines for engaging consultants. This indicates that the panel is continuing to strengthen the functionality of the commission as it assesses issues which are related to salaries, allowances, pensions and service conditions.
As per a report by Livemint, the development comes as the Commission remains in its consultation and analysis phase by constantly engaging with employee unions, pensioner organisations and other stakeholders. While the modification does not directly change employee salaries or pensions, it shows that the Commission is working towards the overall development and financial safety of everyone covered under it.
Jaipur consultation scheduled
The 8th CPC has scheduled another round of consultation in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on August 31, 2026 and September 01, 2026. Employees, pensioners and associations can submit their requests and memorandums ahead of these meetings by August 18, 2026.
The consultation is part of the Commission’s wider nationwide exercise to gather their views and suggestions on pay, allowances, pensions and other service-related issues. The Jaipur meetings are a part of the ongoing assessment process rather than representing any final decisions on the pay revisions.
Chandigarh consultation scheduled
The 8th Pay Commission has added Chandigarh to its list of scheduled meetings before the draft for the 8th CPC is submitted. Those who wish to submit their views and representations have until August 25 to do so.
The meeting is planned to be held on September 16-18, intended to give central government employees, pensioners, employee associations and other stakeholders an opportunity to present their concerns and recommendations directly to the commission.
These reviews will be added to the Commission’s assessment before it prepares the recommendations for the central government.
In addition to Jaipur and Chandigarh, the 8th Pay Commission has scheduled a consultation in Puducherry on September 9, 2026, as well as Chennai on September 7th and 8th. Interested employees and pensioners are given until August 18th as the deadline to submit their reviews for both cities.
