The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has once again extended the deadline for citizens to update their Aadhaar details online, free of cost, and this time, by a year.
Citizens willing to update the details can now upload documents, such as proof of identity and address on the official Aadhaar portal till June 14, 2026. This service is particularly valuable for Aadhaar holders whose information has changed over the years—be it due to a name change or address relocation.
Who Can Benefit
• Individuals who have never updated their Aadhaar since enrollment.
• Residents who have moved, changed names, or updated other personal details.

• Those whose last update was over 10 years ago—a recommended timeline due to UIDAI guidelines.
What You Can Update For Free
The free update facility allows users to change or correct the following information online:
• Name
• Gender
• Date of birth
• Address
Updates to mobile numbers or biometric data are not covered under this free service and require visiting an Aadhaar enrolment centre; these updates will incur nominal charges.
How to Update Online
1. Visit the myAadhaar portal.
2. Log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP.
3. Select “Update Demographic Details” and verify existing information.

5. Consent to the update, and click on submit.
6. A Service Request Number (SRN) will be generated which can be used to track your update status whenever you need.
The verification process typically takes a few days, after which you will be notified via SMS or email once the update is approved.
Why Act Now

• Security and Accuracy: Keeping Aadhaar data current helps prevent fraud and identity mismatches.
Offline Updates and Charges
After the deadline, residents will still be able to update demographic details, but only by visiting an Aadhaar enrolment centre in person—where a fee (typically Rs 50) will apply. Biometric changes, such as fingerprint or iris updates, require attending a physical centre and will be charged at the standard rate.
