Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices for domestic airlines rose by Rs 6.28 per litre, or 5.46 per cent, from September 1, taking the price to Rs 121.28 per litre, according to data from state-owned oil companies.
The latest hike follows a Rs 5 per litre increase on August 1, 2026. ATF accounts for up to 40 per cent of an airline's operating costs, adding to the expense burden for carriers.
Commercial liquified petroleum gas (LPG) prices also rose from September 1. The price of a 19-kg cylinder increased by Rs 9.50 to Rs 2,747.50, while the 5-kg free trade LPG cylinder became costlier by Rs 2 to Rs 764.
ATF Prices Rise 5.46 Per Cent
ATF prices are revised on the first day of every month based on international benchmark rates and foreign exchange movements. Retail prices vary across states because of local taxes such as the value-added tax, or VAT.
Petrol and diesel prices were not changed. Their rates had risen by about Rs 7.50 per litre each in May.
The latest ATF hike comes after the Rs 5 per litre increase in August. The two consecutive increases have added Rs 11.28 per litre to the price of jet fuel over the past two months.
Commercial LPG Rates Rise After Two-Month Decline
Commercial LPG prices had fallen sharply over the previous two months. Rates dropped by Rs 183.50 per cylinder on July 1 and another Rs 192 on August 1, resulting in a combined reduction of Rs 375.50.
The latest increase follows a much sharper rise during the West Asia crisis. Between February and June, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder climbed by Rs 1,373, from Rs 1,740.50 to Rs 3,113.50.
Prices also rose across major cities. In Mumbai, the 19-kg cylinder became costlier by Rs 9.50 to Rs 2,701. Kolkata recorded an Rs 11.50 increase to Rs 2,884, while Chennai saw a Rs 10.50 rise to Rs 2,916.50.
Domestic LPG prices were unchanged at Rs 942 for a 14.2-kg cylinder. The last increase was Rs 29 per cylinder on June 7.
CNG, PNG Prices Also Hiked
Mahanagar Gas Limited has increased CNG prices by Rs 2 per kg and domestic PNG prices by Rs 1 per standard cubic metre from September 1.
CNG in and around Mumbai now costs Rs 88 per kg. The PNG price increase applies to around 3 million domestic consumers.
The company cited higher input gas costs linked to international prices amid tensions in the Middle East. A significant portion of gas supplied to the CNG segment comes from imported spot regasified liquefied natural gas, where prices are higher.
The latest increase follows a Rs 3.89 per kg CNG hike by Indraprastha Gas Ltd in the Delhi-NCR region, taking CNG prices there to Rs 86.98 per kg.
