The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana will be launched on August 26 by the Delhi government, ahead of Raksha Bandhan. This scheme will provide financial assistance from September 01, 2026.
The beneficiaries will receive almost Rs 2,500 every month through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This scheme has attracted significant interest since its registration portal opened on August 01,2026. However, registration does not translate into receiving benefits; that depends on eligibility and verification of applications. Schemes like this also attract a lot of false applications from people wanting to benefit from it.
As per a report by Livemint, the Delhi Government has set aside Rs 5,100 crore for this scheme in this year's budget. This initiative is aimed at providing financial support to women from economically vulnerable households.
Under the eligibility criteria announced, women between 21 and 60 years of age can qualify for this scheme; however, this is not the only clause. The applicant must be the eldest female member of the family and be a registered voter in Delhi. The annual family income must not surpass Rs 2.5 lakh. The applicant, her husband or her parents must also be residents of Delhi for the last 10 years.
Another clause is that household electricity consumption during the past 12 months must not exceed 2,400 units.
How will the Rs 2,500 assistance be paid?
The monthly assistance will be transferred through the scheme’s designated payment mechanism. Beneficiaries of the scheme can choose between different options for receiving the amount; they can get the entire amount in the form of a fixed deposit or a recurring deposit, or split it between a deposit and Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). The latter option allows one to receive Rs 1,000 in the CBDC route, while Rs 1,500 is placed in a deposit. The Delhi government’s official portal also states that beneficiaries need an active account with a participating bank within the CBDC ecosystem.
For applicants whose forms contain any missing or incorrect information, the government has said a correction facility will be made available on the official portal. Applicants will continue to be accepted throughout the year. Nearly 4,000 sanction letters are to be issued on August 26, and the first payment is scheduled for September 01, 2026; however, the beneficiaries and expectants should keep track of updates from the Delhi Government.
