According to media reports, the 22nd instalment of PM Kisan Yojana could come sometime in February 2026, though the official date of payment has not been announced yet. The PM Kisan Yojana is a scheme run by the central government to provide income support to landholding farmer families across India. The direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme provides Rs. 6,000 to eligible beneficiaries in three equal tranches. The 21st instalment of the scheme was paid in November. Here are the rules to follow to receive benefits under the scheme.

Eligibility of PM Kisan and definition of ‘family’

The operational guidelines of the PM Kisan scheme say that the aim of the scheme is to supplement the financial needs of all landholding farmers’ families. In this case, the guidelines define a family as a husband, wife, and a child. Accordingly, the whole of the family is considered a unit and is eligible to receive the benefits per family. Even if the name of the wife and the child, aged below 18 years, as landholders under the same plot or have a different plot in their names, the family as a unit is eligible for only a single payout, which does not exceed Rs. 6,000 annually.

However, if different families own a single plot of land, these families are eligible to separately claim benefits under the scheme. The PM Kisan scheme, which was launched in 2019, was originally meant only for small and medium farmers owning up to 2 hectares of land. However, this limit was later removed. However, if any member of the farmer’s immediate family has paid income tax in the last assessment year, the family will not be eligible to receive benefits under the scheme.

The government in October had said that it found that more than 31 lakh beneficiaries of the scheme were suspected to have received benefits where both husband and wife got benefits simultaneously. As per the latest data released, over 11 crore beneficiaries of the scheme were identified and Rs. 3.7 lakh crore have been disbursed.
