The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) has reached one of its major milestones with 1.25 crore houses sanctioned across the country. Data shared by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs shows that several states have achieved exceptionally high completion rates, reflecting faster execution and delivery of houses to beneficiaries. From the data shared, 1.20 crore houses have been grounded for works, nearly 98.61 lakh homes have been completed, whereas almost 86 lakh homes have already been occupied. The flagship of PMAY has attracted investments worth more than Rs 8.7 lakh crore while also generating jobs across sectors.
10 states by PMAY-U completion rate
Goa tops the completion list with a 100 per cent delivery rate. With 3,177 sanctioned houses completed, Goa becomes the only state to achieve full completion under the scheme.
Nagaland stands at 30,202 houses completed out of the 32,394 sanctioned houses. This makes it the state with the highest recorded completion rates in the country after Goa.
Tamil Nadu has completed 6.31 lakh houses against the 6.86 lakh sanctioned homes recorded under the scheme. Tamil Nadu becomes another one of the leading states in terms of scheme implementation.
Tripura has delivered 82,640 homes out of 90,319 sanctioned homes under PMAY-U. The state recorded a high completion rate, demonstrating strong execution.
Madhya Pradesh recorded 10.15 lakh sanctioned homes, out of which 9.08 lakh homes have been delivered. The state also remains one of the best-performing major states under the scheme, given its population density and size, comparatively.
The list is followed by Gujarat. The state has completed nearly 9.88 lakh houses from a sanctioned total of 11.09 lakh units.
Kerala has delivered 1.42 lakh homes out of 1.62 lakh sanctioned houses. The state has maintained a high completion rate, as per the data.
Mizoram recorded 39,618 sanctioned homes under the scheme, out of which 34,140 homes have been completed.
The hill state of Himachal Pradesh has also completed 12,076 homes out of 14,033 sanctioned units.
West Bengal has delivered 5.29 lakh completed houses from the total number of 6.27 lakh sanctioned units.
Large states drive progress.
As for the data shared by the MoHUA, the highest number of sanctioned homes is in Uttar Pradesh, which leads with 21.36 lakh houses sanctioned; however, only 17.25 lakh have been completed.
This is followed by Andhra Pradesh with 19.56 lakh sanctioned houses. Whereas Maharashtra has sanctioned 13.60 lakh homes, of which only 10.69 lakh units have been completed.
Another insight shared from the data is the use of new technologies; nearly 10 lakh homes have been constructed using this technology. The housing delivery mark is reaching the one-crore mark, highlighting the relevance and the pivotal role of the PMAY-U scheme.
