The discussion focused on the role of health insurance in supporting people during medical setbacks and recovery journeys. The event also marked Niva Bupa’s association with the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games as the Official Health Insurance Principal Partner and the launch of its Setback se Comeback Tak campaign.

Health Insurance As A Support System During Medical Setbacks

The campaign features Saina Nehwal, Olympic medallist and former World No. 1 badminton player, and Mirabai Chanu, Olympic medallist and Commonwealth Games gold medallist. Through their journeys, the campaign focuses on how athletes overcome injuries, setbacks and challenges before returning to competition.

Nimish Agrawal said, “The medal is only the final chapter; the real story lies in the setback, the recovery and the determination to come back stronger.” He added that Niva Bupa witnesses similar recovery journeys among customers who overcome major surgeries, accidents and critical illnesses with the right healthcare support.

The company said the partnership aims to highlight recovery journeys beyond sporting achievements, including those of athletes from diverse backgrounds and para-athletes.

Agrawal also highlighted rising medical costs, saying medical inflation in India is currently between 12 per cent and 14 per cent, making financial preparedness important during health emergencies. The company also shared its claims data in the context of healthcare support. Niva Bupa said it has settled close to 37 lakh claims amounting to around Rs 14,000 crore over the last five financial years.

The campaign also highlights personal recovery journeys of athletes who have faced setbacks during their careers. Nehwal spoke about the challenges of dealing with injuries during her career and how recovery requires patience, discipline and support. She highlighted that setbacks are part of every athlete’s journey, but the ability to return stronger defines success.

Health Insurance Adoption Expands Beyond Metro Cities

SSpeaking to Outlook Money, Ankur Kharbanda, Deputy CEO and Executive Director, Niva Bupa Health Insurance said, Health insurance adoption is expanding beyond metro cities, with smaller towns emerging as important growth markets. He said Niva Bupa has seen growth from cities beyond the top 100 locations at nearly twice the pace compared to the top cities.

Kharbanda also highlighted the increasing adoption of health insurance among youngsters. He said young consumers earlier showed lower interest in health coverage as they considered themselves less vulnerable to health risks, but this trend is now changing, with more youngsters opting for insurance. He added that people are now prioritising health insurance over other optional purchases.

He further noted that GST changes have also supported the growth of the health insurance sector, with the industry witnessing stronger momentum after the reforms.
