I found that my bank had auto debited money from my savings account towards dues of credit card without sending me a notice. Can they do this?

Typically, such an action is possible only when you have opted for auto debit on credit card dues. In such a case, the bank has the right to debit your linked bank account for the dues on the credit card. If you have not signed any such undertaking, you could confront your bank branch to check on what basis they have debited the sum and sort it at the bank branch level itself.
