I have a health insurance of Rs.5 lakh. Does it cover delivery of a child under it or do I need to take a separate pregnancy cover for my wife?
-Kalpesh Shah

Pregnancy is not covered by most health insurance companies, which is typically a standard exclusion unless mentioned explicitly. The policies that offer maternity cover have specific waiting period, which could go up to three years. If your wife has already conceived, then the maternity cannot be covered under a standard individual plan.

It is also necessary to know that policies seldom cover for newborn babies, which is why most health policies are available only after 90 days of the child’s birth.
