  • UAN generation and activation have moved to the UMANG app.

  • Aadhaar-linked mobile verification and face authentication are required.

  • Members can access EPF balance, passbook, claims and KYC services.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has brought key Universal Account Number (UAN) services to the UMANG app. EPF subscribers can use Aadhaar-based verification and face authentication to complete the UAN-related processes.

Here are five things EPFO members need to know.

1. You Can Generate A New UAN: Employees who do not have a UAN can use UMANG to get one. The user needs to open the app, select ‘UAN Allotment and Activation’, and enter the Aadhaar number and mobile number.

After OTP verification on the Aadhaar-linked mobile number, the user has to complete face authentication through the Aadhaar Face RD app. If the Aadhaar number is not linked to an existing UAN, a new UAN is generated and sent through SMS.

2. Aadhaar And Face Verification: To use the UAN services on UMANG, members must have a valid Aadhaar number and a mobile number registered with Aadhaar. The Aadhaar Face RD app is also required to complete the face verification.

Users may face problems if their Aadhaar or mobile details are incorrect, the OTP does not go through, or the face scan fails. If the Aadhaar number is already associated with a UAN, UMANG will display a notification.

3. An Existing UAN Can Be Activated: Members who already have a UAN, but have not activated it can use the ‘UAN Activation’ option on UMANG.

The process requires the UAN, Aadhaar number, and mobile number. After OTP verification, the member has to complete face authentication. Once verification is successful, the UAN is activated and a temporary password is sent through SMS.

4. Activated UANs Can Also Be Authenticated: Members whose UAN is already active can use the ‘Face Authentication of Already Activated UANs’ option.

After giving consent and completing the face scan, the system verifies the member through the UIDAI system. It retrieves details, such as the UAN, Aadhaar information, the registered mobile number, and updates the EPFO records with the verified information.

5. UAN Gives Access To EPFO Online Services: After UAN activation, members can use EPFO’s online services to check their EPF balance, download their passbook, track claims, and manage know-your-customer (KYC)-related services.

UMANG, or Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance, is a government platform that brings various e-governance services together through a single application.
