Delhi BRICS Summit: Are Banks Closed On September 11? Check September 2026, Holiday List

The 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit is scheduled at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi from September 11 to 13. As preparations for the meeting intensify, government offices in the national capital will observe a holiday on September 11.

The Delhi government has announced the closure of its government offices, autonomous bodies and public sector undertakings (PSUs) operating under the National Capital Territory. Central government offices in Delhi and New Delhi are also covered by the order.

The holiday is linked to the arrangements for the three-day BRICS Leaders’ Summit, including security measures around the venue and other parts of the capital.

Are Banks Closed In Delhi On September 11

Bank customers in Delhi do not have a bank holiday on September 11.

The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI's) holiday calendar does not include September 11 as a bank holiday for Delhi. Bank branches in the capital are therefore scheduled to conduct regular operations on Friday.

The government office holiday and the banking holiday calendar are separate. A closure announced for government establishments does not automatically apply to banks or private companies.

Customers who need banking services can also use digital channels. Internet and mobile banking, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and ATMs are available even on bank holidays, barring scheduled maintenance or technical disruptions.

Bank Holidays In September 2026

The RBI calendar lists city-specific bank holidays in September. The key dates are:

• September 11: Bank branches in Jaipur will be closed because of municipal corporation elections.

• September 14: Banks in Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji and Vijayawada will observe a holiday for festivals including Ganesh Chaturthi, Ganesh Puja, Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vrata, Vinayakar Chaturthi and Hartalika.

• September 15: Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar and Panaji will have bank closures for Samvatsari, Nuakhai and the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi.

• September 21: Banks in Guwahati, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will be shut for the Janmotsav of Srimanta Sankardeva and Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi.

• September 22: Bank branches in Ranchi will observe a holiday for Karma Puja.

• September 23: Banks in Jammu and Srinagar will be closed for the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji.

• September 25: Gangtok will have a bank holiday for Indrajatra.

Is The Stock Market Closed On September 11

The BRICS-related government office holiday does not constitute a stock market holiday.

The NSE and BSE calendars list September 14 as a trading holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi. There is no corresponding September 11 trading holiday listed for the BRICS summit.

Bank and market holidays can vary according to location and the reason for the closure. Customers and investors should therefore check the applicable calendar before planning branch visits or market transactions.
