The 17th pension adalat for central government pensioners and family pensioners is being held today (October 5) in Delhi to redress pension-related grievances on the spot. The session will address 897 specific complaints submitted on the CPENGRAMS portal by super senior pensioners and family pensioners across 24 ministries and departments.

Pensioners, including super senior pensioners, family pensioners and their relatives, can participate in the adalat proceedings either in person or online through the hybrid video conferencing format.

According to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions press release, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh will formally release a detailed Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) booklet specifically addressing key issues concerning family pensioners.

Further, official flyers highlighting the success stories from the previous adalat (16th pension adalat) will be distributed.

How Does Pension Adalat Work?

The pension adalat initiative was introduced in 2017, and this is the 17th pension adalat to be held for central government pensioners since then. Under this redressal mechanism, pension adalats are convened periodically following advance notifications. These adalats bring together officials from different departments, key decision-makers, and retirees at one single venue for faster redressal. This is unlike the traditional system that relies on back-and-forth exchanges of official letters, which makes the process slow, and instead provides a platform where officials engage in direct face-to-face interaction to collectively fix problems on the spot.

This alternative resolution mechanism removes the need for time-consuming and expensive court proceedings by providing quick redressal. In a way, it helps reduce litigation and the avoidable burden on Courts.

Over the last 16 editions of pension adalats, overall 71.70 per cent of the matters listed for redressal have been successfully resolved. Of the total 28,797 registered grievances, 20,676 matters were settled on the spot. For the remaining unresolved grievances during the proceedings, the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) conducts follow-up review meetings with the ministries to make sure that every case is thoroughly redressed.

16th All India Pension Adalat In May 2026

The last pension adalat (16th pension adalat) was held in Delhi in May this year, in which 37 distinct ministries and departments were called. The adalat focused specifically on the long-pending cases, which were selected based on the delay in resolution (pending for more than 45 days). It settled 729 cases right on the spot, reflecting a 72 per cent success rate. In total, 985 cases were resolved during the two-day session.

The majority of the cases were concerned with the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Railways. The proceedings delivered relief to pensioners, including one pensioner who received Rs 74 lakh in overdue benefits and two others who received Rs 46 lakh each. In that adalat, 18 beneficiaries participated virtually from different locations, including Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), Bikaner (Rajasthan), Erode (Tamil Nadu), and Kolkata (West Bengal).
