Bank branches across India and in select states will be closed on three days between July 20 and July 26, 2026, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar. As such, customers with branch-related work may want to plan their visits accordingly.
The holiday schedule includes a regional festival in Tripura, the fourth Saturday, and the weekly Sunday holiday. Branches of State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB) and other lenders will not offer services on the notified dates. However, customers can continue to use digital banking services, including Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Netbanking, mobile banking and ATMs.
Bank Holidays Between July 20 And July 26
According to the RBI holiday calendar, bank branches will be closed on the following days:
July 22 (Wednesday): Banks in Agartala will be closed for Kharchi Puja.
July 25 (Saturday): Banks across the country will be closed for the fourth Saturday, which is a scheduled monthly holiday.
July 26 (Sunday): Banks will be closed nationwide for the weekly Sunday holiday.
Customers in Agartala who need branch services should plan their visits before the local holiday.
When Will Banks Be Open
Banks are expected to operate as usual across most parts of the country on July 20 (Monday), July 21 (Tuesday), July 23 (Thursday) and July 24 (Friday). Branches in states without any additional local holidays are likely to function normally on these days.
RBI Bank Holiday Categories
The RBI classifies bank holidays into three categories:
1] Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act: These apply to branch banking services and cheque clearing in the states where the holiday is observed.
2] RTGS Holidays: These refer to days when Real Time Gross Settlement transactions cannot be initiated through bank branches.
3] Bank Closing of Accounts: This is generally observed on April 1 for annual account closing.
Digital Banking Services To Function As Usual
Customers can use UPI, Netbanking, mobile banking, NEFT, RTGS through online channels and ATMs to transfer funds, pay bills and carry out routine banking transactions.
While branch-based services will not be available on the notified holidays, online transactions are expected to be processed as usual. Customers requiring services, such as cash deposits at branches, cheque-related work, or in-person assistance should plan their visits on working days.
