Banks in several locations across India will be closed from March 16-22, 2026 on account of regional festivals and planned weekend holidays. The list of holidays issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) publishes a state-wise calendar each month for the public and private sector banks.
The closures will fall on different days depending on the region, and the festival which is being celebrated. As such, customers could find that banks are closed in some cities and open in other cities.
Bank Holidays From March 16-22
According to the RBI holiday calendar, banks will be closed on the below given dates in particular cities. On March 17, banks will remain closed in Jammu and Srinagar as a result of Shab-I-Qadr.
On March 19,, several parts of the country will celebrate Gudhi Padwa, Ugadi, the Telugu New Year's Day, Sajibu Nongmapanba (Cheiraoba) and the first day of Navratra. Banks will not operate in Belapur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Srinagar and Vijayawada.
On March 20, banks in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada will be closed on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Fitr.
On March 21, too, banks will remain closed in several cities on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Fitr. Cities where the banks will remain shut are Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawal, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, and Srinagar.
Banks will also be closed on March 22, which is the regular weekly holiday for the entire country.
RBI Holiday Calendar For The Month Of March
The RBI holiday list indicates that there are 18 bank holidays in the month of March 2026. This number includes national and regional holidays, as well as regular weekend closures.
Banks are usually closed on the second and fourth Saturday of each month, and also on all Sundays. However, they do remain open on the first, third, and fifth Saturday unless there is a certain regional holiday.
