Banks to remain closed on different dates across states
Major holidays between October 20 and October 31
Online and UPI banking will work without interruption
The holiday week around Diwali will see a combination of bank holidays across India. Though there won't be three consecutive holidays, banks in different states will be closed on varying dates according to local festivals like Naraka Chaturdashi, Kali Puja, and Bhai Dooj.
Banks have accordingly asked customers to refer to the official holiday calendar for their state before making any branch visit.
Major Holidays Start From October 20
The festive holidays' major phase begins on Monday, October 20. On this day, banks in various states like Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and banks in Kerala will be closed for Diwali, Naraka Chaturdashi, and Kali Puja. These are one of the largest festivals of the year, and branches of most of these locations will be closed.
Holidays On October 21 And 22
On Tuesday, October 21, banks in some states and major cities like Mumbai, Nagpur, Raipur, Srinagar, Bhubaneswar, and Bhopal will observe holidays for Diwali Amavasya, Deepawali, and Govardhan Puja. People in these states will have to depend on online platforms for transactions as physical banking operations will shut down for the day.
On Wednesday, October 22, the banks in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar will be closed for Balipadyami, Laxmi Puja, and Vikram Samvat New Year.
Additional Closures Following Diwali
Holidays will also be observed on Thursday, October 23, in the states of Gujarat, Sikkim, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh. The banks will be closed for regional festivals like Bhaidooj, Chitragupt Jayanti, and Ningol Chakkouba. These are the culmination of the Diwali celebrations in most parts of the nation.
Banks in Ahmedabad, Patna, and Ranchi will remain shut on October 27 and 28 due to Chhath Puja, which is a significant festival in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Lastly, on October 31, banks in Ahmedabad will remain shut on account of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birthday.
Online Banking To Stay Active
Between October 20 and October 31, the banks will have staggered holidays between states during Diwali, while online and UPI services will remain functional. Customers will have continued access to ATMs, Netbanking, mobile apps, and digital payment platforms during this interval.
While banking services like bulk cash deposits, cheque clearing, or demand drafts will not be accessible on holidays, all online platforms will function normally. Customers should try to finish their important work at branches prior to the holiday season in their state to prevent any last-minute hassles.
