  • Banks hold camps across Panchayats for re-KYC, new accounts, and financial services access.

  • RBI to simplify claim process for accounts, lockers, and deposits.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) concluded its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting today, maintaining the repo rate at 5.5 per cent while examining the current economic outlook and monetary policy stance. With its policy decisions, the RBI also highlighted ongoing efforts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, which recently completed 10 years.

Governor Sanjay Malhotra said, “As the Jan Dhan Scheme completes 10 years, a large number of accounts have fallen due for re-KYC. Banks are organising camps at the Panchayat level from July 1 to September 30 to provide doorstep services. These camps will also focus on opening new bank accounts, re-KYC, micro-insurance, and pension schemes, with the aim of strengthening financial inclusion and addressing customer grievances.”

These camps will allow Jan Dhan account users to re-KYC, create new accounts, and promote social security schemes, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. Re-KYC is essential to keep bank accounts functioning, secure, and compatible with regulatory requirements that avoids misuse and fraud.

What is the PM Jan Dhan Yojana

To increase financial inclusion in India, the government launched the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) in 2014. It offers customers essential financial services, including savings accounts, money transfers, credit, insurance, and pension benefits. Individuals without existing bank accounts can use the system to open a Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account at bank branches or through authorised Business Correspondents.

While sharing an update on Jan Dhan completing 10 years, the Prime Minister said over 55 crore accounts have been opened so far. He emphasised the ongoing nationwide KYC renewal effort that began on July 1, 2025, with camps put up in almost one lakh gram panchayats. He urged all Jan Dhan account holders to complete their KYC without delay.

The RBI also plans to streamline and standardise the claim settlement process for bank accounts, deposit lockers, and items in safe custody of deceased customers. This is to simplify and streamline the procedure by giving legal heirs and nominees faster and more accessible access across all banks.
