HashKey Europe, a branch of the Hong Kong-based cryptocurrency exchange HashKey, has been granted a virtual asset service provider (VASP) license by the Central Bank of Ireland.
The HashKey Group announced on Jan. 7, its market expansion through a VASP registration approval from Ireland’s central bank.
In Ireland, all cryptocurrency service providers must register with the central bank to comply with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) regulations as mandated by the European Union’s Fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directive (AMLD5).
Toyota’s AI and robotics-powered ‘Woven City’ set to open this year
Toyota, a Japanese automotive giant plans to open the doors of Woven City this year, a futuristic settlement and living laboratory at the base of the country’s iconic Mount Fuji.

It plans to relocate the initial 100 inhabitants, mainly employees and their families, to the experimental town later this year and progressively increase the population to around 2,000 during the initial stages of the project, the company announced on January 6.
Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda said at the CES tech show in Las Vegas., “This year, residents will begin to move in as we slowly bring Woven City to life,”
He also said, “We aim to accelerate the pace at which new technologies can be tested and developed at Woven City.”
Five years ago, Toyoda unveiled plans for what he called a 'living laboratory,' describing it as a fully sustainable city that would serve as a real-world demonstration of artificial intelligence, advanced robotics, autonomous vehicles, and smart homes.

However, he mentioned that Woven City will remain closed to the general public for at least two years and it might never achieve profitability, as reported by Bloomberg.
Backpack Exchange acquires FTX EU, plans Q1 2025 launch
A centralized cryptocurrency exchange (CEX), Backpack, founded by former Alameda Research and FTX employees, has acquired FTX EU, the former European arm of the defunct FTX exchange.
The FTX bankruptcy court and the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) have approved the acquisition, allowing Backpack to broaden its presence in the European Union.
According to an announcement shared with Cointelegraph on January 7, the company's new European branch will provide a range of cryptocurrency derivative services throughout the EU, including perpetual futures.

Under the agreement, Backpack EU will be in charge of allocating funds to FTX EU customers as a component of the court-sanctioned bankruptcy claims procedure.
