If you own a vehicle, car insurance is a must. There are several online platforms where you can check the insurance status of your car. There are several ways you can do this.
VAHAN portal
These services are available on the Parivahan Sewa portal, or the VAHAN portal., It is the official website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Step 1: Visit the official website https://parivahan.gov.in or https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/nrservices/. These are government websites
Step 2: On the homepage, check the ‘Know Your Vehicle Details’ option. You can find it under the ‘Online Services’ tab.
Step 3: You will be asked to input your vehicle’s registration number and a captcha code
Step 4: Then you will be taken to a page that has relevant details like the car’s insurance status, details of the owner, specification of a vehicle ( make, model, year of manufacture) and so on.
This is a central database maintained by the government. It includes all insurance related details of all vehicles.
Steps to check insurance details on the IIB portal:
Step 1: Visit the official IIB portal at https://healthapp.iib.gov.in/IIB/Public_Search2.jsp
Step 2: Then you will be asked to fill in your personal details, which will include name, email id, phone number, and vehicle registration number. This is useful to ensure your identity
Step 3: When you click on the submit button, you get to see details like policy status. Including the name of the insurer, validity, and so on
mParivahan App
The mParivahan app, developed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, is another way you can check your vehicle insurance details.
Step 1: Install the mParivahan app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store depending on the kind of phone you use
Step 2: Launch the app and set your preferred language
Step 3: There is a ‘Check Vehicle Status’ option from the main menu that you need to select
Step 4: You will be asked to enter details like your vehicle registration number. You can also access your vehicle details through your driving license number
Step 5: Once you click on the search button, details related to your vehicle like type of policy, name of insurer, coverage, and so on
The state you are in will have an official website of its Regional Transport Office (RTO). You can also retrieve data on your vehicle's insurance from the official RTO website.
