Buying home insurance may often feel like choosing from a buffet where you have to eat everything, even if you don’t want to. The home insurance plans may come bundled with different kinds of covers - some that you may or may not need.
IFFCO Tokio on May 8 has launched a new home insurance policy, called Comprehensive Home Protector, that works a bit more like à la carte dining. You pick what you actually want to insure, and skip the rest.
Announced today (May 8), this new policy is not just for homeowners. Renters are in the mix, too. It’s designed to cover not only the physical structure or contents of a home but also the odds and ends that often get left out of typical insurance conversations, like documents, jewellery, or even your bicycle.

The policy also provides coverage for damage when you are relocating. For instance, if you are moving houses and your belongings are damaged due to a fire, road accident, or theft en route, the policy has provisions for that too. It also accounts for natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, cyclones, and even civil disturbances like riots.
There is also a handy inclusion: reimbursement for lost personal money or important documents (like passports or share certificates) under specific circumstances, even if they go missing outside your home.
Loss of jewellery and other valuable items, damages to fine arts, fixed glass and sanitary fittings, breakdown of domestic appliances, portable electronic devices, bicycles, accidental death or disablement of insured and loan payment protection in case of death or disablement, personal liability insurance are some of the features of this policy.

For tenants, the plan offers coverage for potential damage to the landlord’s property, including things like electrical fittings or interior decor, which can otherwise become a point of stress, especially during move-outs or disputes.
IFFCO Tokio is currently offering a 10 per cent early bird discount on the premium if the policy is bought directly through them.
