For families affected by the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, 2025, Bajaj Allianz Life and the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India have eased the claims process for the affected families.

Bajaj Allianz Life has established a dedicated claims settlement desk for families affected by the Pahalgam attack. The initiative has been launched to ease the claims processing for the affected families at this moment of emotional distress. Claims from the affected will now be handled on priority, with an assurance of quicker processing and less documentation.

While they have not waived documentation altogether, given the legal and regulatory requirements, they have simplified it to the bare minimum needed to verify and settle claims.

Families can reach out to the insurer through a toll-free helpline (1800-209-7272), by walking into any of its 578 branches across India, or via email at claims@bajajallianz.co.in

Previously, LIC had also announced a simplified and compassionate approach to filing claims. Their entire process remains offline, and nominees will need to visit the LIC branch where the policy was originally issued.

Typically, when a person with a life insurance cover dies, the claimant, often a nominee or family member, will need to make the claim with an official intimation to the insurance company. This involves providing information, such as the cause and location of death and date of death. The procedure then proceeds to documentation, which is typically paperwork many are unable to gather in times of distress.

Having all the necessary documents ready can help ensure faster processing. However, many nominees might get confused as to which documents they should gather to have a quick settlement process.

Here’s all that you’ll need to file a claim:

To process a claim, families of deceased policyholders will need to submit the following documents:

  • A duly filled and signed Claimant Statement Form

  • A recent photograph of the claimant

  • A copy of the death certificate issued by a government authority

  • Photo ID proof of the claimant

  • Address proof of the claimant (Aadhaar, passport, driver’s license, or voter ID)

  • PAN card or Form 60 of the claimant

  • A cancelled cheque or a bank statement/passbook showing the claimant's name and account number

  • A signed payout mandate form with the claimant's bank details

These documents are consistent with guidelines laid out by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai), which emphasises that claim intimation should happen as early as possible.

If the policy was assigned to another person or entity (a common practice in loans and business deals), then additional legal documents may be required. However, in the case of a tragedy such as the Pahalgam terror-attack, where urgency and compassion are needed, the insurers have clarified that they will expedite approvals and support families directly.
