The Government of India will auction dated securities worth Rs 28,000 crore on August 21, 2026, according to a Reserve Bank of India (RBI) press release dated August 17. The sale will involve the re-issue of two government securities (G-secs) with maturities in 2041 and 2076.

The Centre will offer Rs 17,000 crore of the 7.06 per cent G-sec 2041, which has a repayment date of July 27, 2041. Another Rs 11,000 crore will be offered through the 7.43 per cent G-sec 2076, which matures on January 19, 2076. The Centre has the option to retain additional subscriptions of up to Rs 2,000 crore against each security. This means the total amount retained through the auction could be higher than the notified Rs 28,000 crore, subject to the government exercising the option.

Auction And Settlement Details

The auction will take place through the RBI’s Mumbai office using the multiple price method. Competitive and non-competitive bids must be submitted electronically through the RBI’s e-Kuber system on August 21. Non-competitive bids can be submitted between 10:30 am and 11 am, while the window for competitive bids will run from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. The auction result will be announced on the same day.

Successful bidders will make payment on August 24. Primary dealers can also submit bids for the additional competitive underwriting portion between 9 am and 9:30 am on August 21.

The securities will also be eligible for “When Issued” trading from August 18-21.

Retail Investor Participation

Up to 5 per cent of the notified amount for each security will be available to eligible individuals and institutions under the non-competitive bidding facility. Individual investors can participate through the RBI Retail Direct portal.

The minimum bid size is Rs 10,000, with subsequent bids in multiples of Rs 10,000. Under the non-competitive segment, allotment will be based on the weighted average rate or price emerging from successful competitive bids.

The auction will be price-based because the securities are being re-issued. The RBI will determine the minimum price or maximum yield up to which bids will be accepted. It can also accept or reject bids, either wholly or partially.
