Stock Market Today: The Indian stock market opened on a positive note on June 5, 2025. The Sensex index opened at 81196.08 levels, up by 0.24per cent or 197.83 points. On the other hand, the Nifty 50 opened at 24691.2 levels, up by 71 points or 0.28 per cent. Soon after the market opened, the headline indices gained a little; at the time of writing, the Sensex traded at 81,037.23 levels, up by 0.048 per cent, and the Nifty 50 traded at 24,627.75 levels, up by 0.031 per cent.
Broader market indices also traded in the green, with the Nifty MidCap 100 and Nifty SmallCap 100 trading higher by 0.35 per cent and 0.6 per cent, respectively, at the time of writing. Key sectoral indices, such as the Nifty Pharma, Nifty Realty, and Nifty Healthcare Index, gained the most as they traded higher by up to 1.05 per cent in early trade.

Today is the second day of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) six-member monetary policy committee (MPC) meeting. Markets expect a rate cut ranging from a 25-basis-point (bps) rate cut to a jumbo rate cut of 50 bps. D-Street is expected to closely monitor RBI’s policy decisions and factor in the probable rate cut over the course of the upcoming sessions.
Nifty 50 Gainers And Losers
As many as 28 Nifty 50 stocks gained in early trade, while 22 stocks declined. Shares of Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Eternal and Cipla traded higher by up to 3.61 per cent and emerged as top gainers in early trade. On the other hand shares of Tata Consumer Products Ltd, Axis Bank, and Nestle India slipped as much as 0.9 per cent to emerge as top drags.

Global Markets Trade Mixed
On June 4 the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 42,427.74, lower by 91.9 points, or 0.22 per cent. Other key Wall Street indices ended the session in the green, with the S&P 500 closing higher by 0.44 points or 0.01 per cent at 5,970.81, and the Nasdaq Composite ended 61.53 points or 0.32 per cent higher at 19,460.49.
The Asian market mirrored the movement seen on Wall Street and traded mixed on June 5. At the time of writing, Japan’s Nikkei 225 traded lower by 88.99 points, or 0.24 per cent; the Hang Seng index traded higher by 204.54 points, or 0.86 per cent; and the Shanghai Composite index traded marginally lower, down by 1.92 points, or 0.06 per cent.
