Domestic benchmark indices extended gains for the third consecutive day on October 6, 2025, led by gains in IT, bank, and hospital stocks. The BSE Sensex rose 582.95 points, or 0.72 per cent, to close at 81,790.12. Likewise, Nifty 50 advanced 183.40 points, or 0.74 per cent, to end at 25,077.65.

The broader market indices too mirrored the sentiment, with the Nifty Midcap 100 jumping 0.89 per cent, and Nifty Smallcap 100 rising 0.28 per cent. Nifty 500 index, which represents more than 92 per cent of the free-float market capitalisation of all the stocks listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), closed 0.62 per cent higher. The Nifty Microcap 250 index, however, closed in the red, declining 0.29 per cent.

IT, Banks Lead Gains

Nifty IT emerged as the top gainer, jumping 2.28 per cent, followed by Nifty Healthcare, which rose 1.29 per cent. Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Financial Services also surged 1.22 per cent and 1.08 per cent, respectively.

Hospital stocks rallied as the government revised the Central Government Health Services (CGHS) package rates for nearly 2,000 medical procedures.

Nifty Bank, which tracks the performance of the 12 largest and most liquid banking stocks, advanced 0.93 per cent to close at 56,104.85.

Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Auto, Nifty Realty, Nifty Oil & Gas, and Nifty Pharma also ended the session in green.

On the other hand, Nifty Metal and Nifty Media declined 0.90 per cent each. Nifty FMCG and Nifty Energy also ended in red.

Nifty 50: Top Gainers & Losers

Max Healthcare rose 6.34 per cent, Shriram Finance, gained 3.90 per cent, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) advanced 2.97 per cent, Tech Mahindra jumped 2.78 per cent, and Apollo Hospitals ascended 2.50 per cent, emerging as the top gainers in the Nifty 50 index.

Axis Bank, Eternal (formerly Zomato), Bajaj Finance, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Infosys, HCL Technologies, Bajaj Finserv, Jio Financial Services, Bajaj Auto, Sun Pharma, Maruti Suzuki, and Nestle India were also among the top gainers, rising between 1 per cent and 2.50 per cent.

On the other hand, Trent, Tata Steel, Adani Ports, and Power Grid were the top losers in today's session. Eicher Motors, Titan, NTPC, ITC, SBI Life Insurance, Adani Enterprises, and Hindalco were also among the top losers.

Market Outlook

Investors will now be looking ahead to the July-September quarter (Q2) financial results for fiscal year 2025-26 (FY26). TCS is scheduled to report its Q2FY26 earnings on October 9, marking the start of the earnings season.

Further, India and the European Union (EU) began the 14th round of negotiations in Brussels today to finalise the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The negotiations will continue till October 10. Market participants will track for any significant announcements.
