Aadhaar App crosses 4 crore downloads since January 2026 launch.
Users updated mobile numbers, addresses and email addresses digitally.
App offers biometric controls, selective sharing and e-Aadhaar downloads.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced that the new Aadhaar App has crossed 4 crore downloads since its launch in January 2026.
According to government data, nearly 49 lakh mobile numbers have been updated through the app, along with 11.65 lakh addresses and 12.5 lakh email addresses. The biometric lock and unlock facility have also been used more than 1.91 crore times.
The app was introduced on January 28, 2026, as a replacement for the earlier mAadhaar app. It is available for Android and iOS users and allows residents to access several Aadhaar services through their smartphones.
Services Available On The Aadhaar App
The app allows users to carry out several Aadhaar-related tasks without relying on physical copies of the Aadhaar card. These include face-based Aadhaar authentication, downloading e-Aadhaar and locking or unlocking biometric authentication.
Users can also create a QR-based contact card for sharing selected contact details. The app supports consent-based selective data sharing and allows up to five Aadhaar profiles to be added to a single device.
Other services include updating a registered mobile number and address, adding or updating an email address and downloading e-Aadhaar.
The app also allows users to lock their Aadhaar biometrics when they are not required for authentication. The feature can be unlocked when biometric authentication is needed.
Who Can Update Their Mobile Number
Users can update their mobile number through the app if their existing mobile number is already registered with Aadhaar and they still have access to it, according to UIDAI's frequently asked questions (FAQs).
Those who have lost access to their registered mobile number, or have never registered one with Aadhaar, need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or an authorised Aadhaar enrolment and update centre.
How Can You Update Your Address
The Aadhaar App allows users to update their address. Eligible residents can also use the Head of Family (HoF) method.
Under this process, a family member whose Aadhaar has the correct address can approve the address update request through the Aadhaar App.
Email Updates Are Now Available
The email update facility became available through the Aadhaar App from July 1, 2026. UIDAI has also waived the Rs 75 fee for email updates made through the app until December 31, 2026.
Separately, the free online Aadhaar document update facility has been extended until June 14, 2027. Residents can use the Aadhaar portal to update and verify their identity and address documents without paying a fee during this period.
What Has Changed With The New App
The new platform reduces the need to share physical Aadhaar copies for services where digital verification can be used. Features such as QR-based sharing and selective data disclosure are intended to let users share specific information instead of handing over complete document copies.
Residents may still need to provide documents or complete verification through other channels where the concerned service provider or authority requires it.
