High-paying overseas job offers usually attract attention on social media. One such claim by a 21-year-old Indian techie has gone viral after he shared details of what he said was an onsite job offer from a Karachi-based company, prompting users to debate whether the offer was genuine.
In a post on social media platform X, the techie wrote, “Just received an onsite offer from a Karachi-based company. $180-220k base (Rs 1.7 crore to around Rs 2 crore), visa sponsored, and the team operates in the UK timezone. Should I go for it?”
What The Techie Was Offered
Along with the post, the techie shared a screenshot of what appeared to be a recruitment message. The message read, “We saw your profile and I think, you’re a good fit for out company.” According to the screenshot, the company is based in Karachi, Pakistan, while most of its team operated in the UK time zone.
The message also mentioned that the role was an onsite opportunity and included visa sponsorship.
However, the screenshots did not mention the company’s name, recruiter details or the specific role being offered. The authenticity of the claimed job offer could also not be confirmed independently.
How Social Media Users Reacted
The post attracted over 195,000 views on X within a few days and sparked mixed reactions. While many users expressed doubts about the authenticity of the claimed job offer, some congratulated the techie and advised him to carefully evaluate the opportunity before making a decision. One user commented, “There’s no limit to the engagement farming.” The term is commonly used to describe posts aimed at maximising likes, comments and other interactions on social media.
Some users also pointed out at apparent errors in the alleged recruitment message, including the use of ‘out’ company instead of ‘our’ company, saying the mistakes made the offer appear suspicious. Some users reacted humorously to the Karachi-based job offer, drawing comparisons to the film Dhurandhar.
Another user also claimed to have received a similar visa-sponsored job offer from a Rawalpindi-based company with a $132,000 base salary, prompting questions about whether similar recruitment messages had been sent to multiple people.
