  • Farmer ID now compulsory

  • Eligible farmers receive Rs 2,000 instalment

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme is one of the government’s income-support schemes designed for the welfare of farmers in India. Under PM Kisan Samaan Nidhi Yojana, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 delivered quarterly. This amount is directly transferred into their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer system (DBT).

The government has introduced a compliance system that farmers must understand and follow in order to receive the future payments. PM-KISAN payments are generally released every four months.

The previous 22nd instalment of PM KISAN Yojana was released on March 13, 2026. This scheme provides instalments every four months; as such, the next instalment can be expected to be released anytime between July and August 2026, according to a report by News 18. However, there has been no official announcement from the government as of now.

Who Is The Eligible Farmer?

The PM-Kisan scheme is for the farmers who fulfil the following conditions:

  • Indian citizen

  • Owns cultivable land

  • Should be a marginal farmer

  • Not be someone who receives a pension of at least Rs 10,000 per month

  • Not having filed for income tax.

  • Not be an institutional landholder.

How To Receive And Check The Status?

In order to benefit from this scheme, one must register on the official PM Kisan portal. It is crucial for farmers to complete the e-KYC; or else, the instalments can be delayed.

Here is how you can register yourself.

  • Visit the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi website and navigate to the KYC section.

  • Enter your Aadhaar number and registered mobile number.

  • Submit after verification with OTP.

  • If one does not receive the amount, they can reach out to their helpline number

Another addition to this is that the Farmer ID is now made mandatory for receiving these instalments. The government has linked the benefits of PM KISAN with a unique Farmer ID system. This is a part of the Farmer’s registry and AgriStack initiative. Beneficiaries who are not registered under this ID may face delays or may not receive the 23rd instalment and the payments after that.

This change is aimed at making sure that people who are attempting fraudulent activities by exploiting the loopholes in the system are removed from the pre-existing records automatically by this digital cautionary step.

The PM-KISAN instalment is quite significant for farmers, as the amount not only helps them in their agricultural produce, but also helps them ease out their sustenance. With the step of making Farmer ID and e-KYC compulsory, the government is focusing on ensuring that the funds reach the right and eligible farmers.
