The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) is a government initiative, approved by the Union Cabinet on August 9, 2024. In order to provide affordable housing for middle-class families, the urban poor, and economically disadvantaged groups, with the goal of constructing one lakh houses over the next five years from September 1, 2024.
The scheme includes four key verticals to address diverse housing needs:
Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC)
Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP)
Affordable Rental Housing (ARH)
Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS)
These verticals aim to support inclusive growth, benefiting slum dwellers, SC/ST communities, minorities, women, and persons with disabilities.
Who Can Apply?
The following families are eligible to apply for PMAY-U 2.0:
Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): Families with annual incomes up to Rs 3 lakh.
Low-Income Groups (LIG): Families with annual incomes between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 6 lakh.
Middle-Income Groups (MIG): Families earning between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 9 lakh annually.
Applicants must not own a pucca house in their name. Those who have benefited from any housing scheme in the past 20 years are not eligible for this scheme.
What Documents Are Required?
The following documents must be submitted in order to complete the PMAY-U 2.0 application:
1. Aadhar Card: Details of the applicant and all family members are required for identity verification
2. Income Proof: To confirm eligibility for the respective income category (EWS, LIG, or MIG), applicants must provide proof of income, such as salary slips, tax returns, or income certificates
3. Caste/Community Certificate: To avail any special advantages intended for members of restricted groups, such as SC, ST or OBC candidates must meet this requirement
4. Land Documents: For those applying under the Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) vertical, proof of land ownership or rights is necessary
5. Bank Account Details: Active bank account information is required for direct subsidy disbursement

How to Apply?
On the official PMAY-U website, households can assess their eligibility and start the PMAY-U 2.0 application process. After confirming your eligibility, collect the required documentation such as the Aadhaar details, proof of income, proof of caste or community (if applicable), and land documents if you're applying under the Beneficiary-Led Construction vertical.
To submit offline applications, you can visit Common Service Centres (CSCs) or local government agencies. Once the necessary documents have been submitted, your application will be examined to determine its eligibility.
