Even after 17 years, the veteran Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor continues to receive a cheque of 3000 pounds for acting in the Oscar-winning 2008 release movie “Slumdog Millionaire”. The Actor revealed that even after so many years, the movie is still earning him money. He said, “I must share this with you. It's a very emotional moment. It's been more than a decade and a half, and yesterday, again, I got a pay cheque for Slumdog Millionaire."

While speaking in a session at the Indian Today Conclave 2026, the actor shared, “Yesterday, it was 3,000 pounds. I pay all my taxes so I can say this. I am going to get almost half a million pounds. So, I am a millionaire."

While the movie has enriched him, both professionally and financially, Kapoor’s revelation, “I didn't ask for it. They gave it themselves”, highlights the practice the movie producers followed on their own.

He shared that when the team informed him that the moviemakers cannot pay his usual fee, he said, “Did I ask for the money? ‘I’ll do it for free.” When the filmmakers told him that they couldn’t afford him, he clarified that he wanted to do the movie not for money but to work with an international team. “I did that movie to educate myself. I want to learn, and that's how I stay relevant,” disclosed the actor.

Now, the amount he receives for the movie through cheques converts to more than Rs 3 lakh.

The movie did well and won Oscars in several categories in 2009. It was nominated in 10 categories and won awards in eight categories, including best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay, best original score, best original song, best sound mixing, best cinematography, and best film editing.

While the movie was centred around a young boy from Mumbai slums, who appeared on a quiz show on television, gave the answers correctly, and won Rs 1 crore. The show named Kaun Banega Crorepati in the movie took its name from the actual show on television. Kapoor played the host who asked the questions while sometimes directing and manipulating the boy while answering.

The movie was roughly based on a novel written by Vikas Swarup. Danny Boyle directed the movie.

Kapoor, known for his fitness and youthful look, acted in ‘Subedaar’, which was released recently, on March 5, 2026. His upcoming movie ‘Alpha’ stars actors including Alia Bhatt, Bobby Deol, and Sharvari Wagh, and is scheduled for release in July this year.
