Summary of this article
· EPFO streamlines joint declaration process for Aadhaar seeding and correction requests
· Mismatch in details can be resolved by employers via JD functionality
· Employees can resolve errors even if establishment is closed
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has simplified Aadhaar Seeding with Universal Account Number (UAN) for cases where Aadhaar seeding in UAN is routed to their employers. EPFO has also allowed employees not only to seed their Aadhaar details with the UAN directly without needing the employer’s or EPFO’s approval, but also to modify their personal details in the records themselves. However, in some cases, such requests are directed to the employers or EPFO for approval. To make this approval process easier, EPFO has made the process easier, giving employers the right to seed employees’ Aadhaar or approve modifications without seeking EPFO’s approval.
Employers can do it through the KYC functionality on the EPFO’s employer portal.
The employees who need to seed their Aadhaar or correct details in the UAN under a joint declaration with the employer, the simplified process entails:
Mismatch In The Name, Gender, And Date Of Birth:
If there is a mismatch in the name, gender, and date of birth of an employee in the UAN and Aadhaar details, the employer can correct it through the Joint Declaration (JD) functionality.
Wrong Aadhaar details:
In case the Aadhaar details are erroneously mentioned in the UAN, they can also be corrected by the employer under the JD functionality.
Establishment Is closed:
If the employer’s establishment is closed, the member (employee) needs to file a physical joint declaration as per the stipulated format, get it attested by the authorised authorities, and submit the claim to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) in the regional office of the EPFO. PRO will verify the details and enter them in the JD functionality for further processing by the office.
Verification Of seeding Or correcting Aadhaar In The JD Functionality:
The seeding or correcting of Aadhaar details, which are entered through JD functionality, will be verified and approved by the Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner (APFC) before making any changes. In those cases where Aadhaar details are already verified, changes will not be allowed. It is the APFC’s responsibility to examine the genuineness of the request and accept or reject it.
Why Is Seeding Aadhaar With The UAN Important?
Linking Aadhaar with the UAN enables EPF members to avail themselves of services that otherwise require the employer’s mediation or approval. When Aadhaar is linked with the UAN and is verified, members can avail of services like changing personal details, applying for withdrawal, etc.
How To Link Aadhaar With UAN?

EPFO will verify Aadhaar details with UIDAI and link them with the EPF account
This is another effort of the EPFO to make the process less time-consuming and convenient for members.
