Summary of this article
PIB confirms no withdrawal of DA hikes or pay commission benefits.
Viral WhatsApp message claiming benefit removal is completely false.
Retirement benefits only forfeited for PSU staff dismissed for misconduct.
Retired government employees receive pay commission revisions and Dearness Allowance (DA) hikes as post-retirement benefits. The 8th Pay Commission will review salaries, pensions, and allowances of central government employees. Dearness Allowance (DA) is a cost-of-living adjustment for employees and pensioners to offset inflation.
Recently, a message on social media claimed that the central government has stopped DA hikes and Pay Commission benefits for retirees, raising concerns among former employees.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB), in a fact check, clarified that a message circulating on WhatsApp claiming the Central Government has withdrawn post-retirement benefits, including DA hikes and Pay Commission revisions for retired employees, is false. PIB tweeted, “The claim is #FAKE!”
The PIB has also mentioned that there is no change in post-retirement benefits.
However, there are specific provisions regarding exceptions to these benefits. According to Rule 37 of the CCS (Pension) Rules, 2021, if an absorbed PSU employee is dismissed from service due to misconduct, their retirement benefits, which include Dearness Allowance and pay commission revisions, will be forfeited.
As per the amended Rule 37(29C) of the CCS (Pension) Rules, 2021, “the dismissal or removal from service of any employee absorbed in a public sector undertaking for subsequent misconduct shall lead to forfeiture of the retirement benefits for the service rendered under the Government.” The rule also mentions that such decisions by the PSU are subject to administrative review by the concerned ministry.
The provisions of related rules, including Rule 7, Rule 8, Rule 41, and Rule 44(5)(a) and (b), apply in a manner similar to regular government employees, ensuring consistency in enforcement and review.
As information spreads quickly online, it is essential for people to carefully check sources on social media. Verifying facts through reliable sources can make you aware of the spread of false claims and ensure informed decisions.
