It is that time of the year again when you might be concerned about your tax deducted at source (TDS) refund. However, for the assessment year 2025-2026 (financial year 2024-25), the Income Tax department has fairly simplified the refund process

Timeframe For Receiving TDS Refund: "The Department of Income Tax normally takes 30 to 45 working days to process the refund once the Income Tax Return is e-verified. It depends on the ITR Type. If it is, ITR 1 or ITR 4 normal time is 20 working days. If the IT Return is filed in ITR Form 2 or 3, which is more complex in nature, the refund process could even take more than 45 working days. Though, as per the rule to process the refund, the time is nine months from the end of the financial year when the ITR was filed," says Deepak Kumar Jain, founder and CEO, TaxManager.in, the tax advisory and e-filing portal of Rising Advisory Services.

Factors That Could Delay Your Refund Process. How To Ensure A Faster Refund Process

There could be various factors that could delay the TDS refund. In case the details filed in ITR mismatch with 26AS or AIS, or you have mentioned incorrect bank details in your ITR, or your bank account is not pre-validated with DIT, or if you have failed to e-verify your ITR within 30 days of Filing, or if you have filed your ITR in the incorrect ITR Form.
