Yes, it is possible to insure a laptop. Typically, the insurer will ask for the invoice; if you do not have it, ensure that you state this early on.
Next, insure the laptop based on its declared value and get an all-risk cover for the laptop. The all-risk cover includes risks such as fire, accidental breakage and theft. Insurers cannot reject a claim unless it is attributed to normal wear and tear, negligence or carelessness.
Do remember that insurers tend to have a high deductible for laptop insurance, which means only claims above the deductible amount are paid. Normally, a deductible of 5-10 per cent of the sum insured subject to minimum of Rs 5,000-10,000 is considered to be fine.
